• What’s guiding like in Uyuni ? DRIVER-GUIDE OFFERED BY 95% OF THE OPERATORS IN UYUNI?

Most Uyuni tours are led by driver-guides, who are not professional guides but are familiar with the routes and place names. They manage the schedule and meals but typically do not provide detailed explanations about the sights.

• WHAT KIND OF GUIDING DO WE PROVIDE? OUR TOURS ARE LED BY APPROPRIATE CERTIFIED GUIDES

We include an appropriate certified guide in addition to the driver. Our guide will give explanations about the history and culture of the place, as well as accurate information about the geological formation of what you will be observing.

• DIFFERENCE IN PRICE between panoramic tour and guided tour

Tours without a certified guide are often cheaper. Ask our travel advisor about the Panoramic Tour option if you’re looking to save some money.

• DURATION VISIT TIME AT EACH ATTRACTION.-

This is a tour where distances must be respected. Be mindful of the time your guide or driver allocates for visiting each attraction. Taking longer than necessary at any stop may result in missing other attractions.

• CAPACITY AND SIZE OF THE GROUP

The 4×4 accommodates 7 people: 6 tourists and a driver. If a guide is on board, the group size is limited to 5 tourists. Passengers must rotate seats to enjoy different views, and one guide can attend to up to 11 tourists (2 cars).

PROGRAMME

PREVIOUS NIGHT.-   9:30 p.m.

The Bed Bus from La Paz to Uyuni takes approximately 9 hours. Seats recline up to 160 degrees, as there are no 180-degree sleeper buses available for this route. Passengers must arrive at the specified office on their ticket at least 15 minutes before departure. Tickets will be sent to the WhatsApp number provided.

Included: Bus ticket La Paz/Uyuni.

Not included: transfer hotel-bus terminal, bus terminal tax 2.5 Bs, meals, drinks, water.

Day 1.-

06:00-07:00: Arrival in Uyuni; wait at the terminal for pickup within 15 minutes by the operator, who will take you to the office for luggage storage.

07:00-10:00: Free time for breakfast or shopping (snacks, water, wine, etc.).

10:00: Group meeting to complete forms and receive trip recommendations.

10:30: Tour begins:

Visit the Train Cemetery (30-40 minutes). Return to Uyuni to collect lunch and proceed to the Salar. Stop at Colchane to tour an artisanal salt factory (30 min). Enter the Uyuni Salt Flats (tour varies by season). Read below for details.

Dry Season Tour (April-December):

• We will explore the dry salt flat, visiting water holes, salt piles, and the Dakar Monument.
• Stop at the old Salt Hotel for lunch.
• Venture deeper into the salt flat for perspective photos and salt desert views.
• Visit Incahuasi Island, walk its coral trails, and see giant cacti. Enjoy panoramic views from the summit.
• Descend and find a spot to watch a stunning sunset.
• 18:00-19:00: Drive to San Juan for an overnight stay in a salt-brick hostel.

Rainy Season Tour Summary (January-March):

• Explore the flooded salt flat, equipped with wellies. We won’t get to Incahuasi Island.
• Travel slowly to avoid engine damage, heading to the Dakar Monument and the old Salt Hotel for lunch.
• Take perspective photos and enjoy the “Mirror of the World,” a vast natural reflection.
• Watch the sunset from a scenic spot.
• Night will either be in Uyuni or San Juan, depending on water levels, info provided before the tour begins.

Day 2.-

Early visit to the Ollague viewpoint to see a distant active volcano, explore two lagoons home to flamingos. Afternoon stop at the Siloli Desert to see the iconic Stone Tree and  end the day at Laguna Colorada, with an overnight stay in a remote village nearby.

Included: 4×4, driver/guide according to pack chosen, meals: breakfast-lunch-dinner, accommodation basic hostel shared bathroom, sleeping bag.

Not included: water, drinks, snacks, entrance fee to REA National Park 180 Bs, bathroom fee en route 2-5 Bs each time, showers 10Bs each time.

Day 3.-

Early morning (5 a.m.) visit to Morning Sun for its fumaroles. Explore the Dalí Desert and Green Lagoon, before starting the return journey, stop at Polkes hot springs for a relaxing bath. Pass through surreal landscapes and visit Qatal, well known for its rock formations and hundreds of llamas in its wet pastures.

Arrival in Uyuni: Dry season: Around 5 PM. Rainy season: Around 7 PM.

Drop-off at the bus terminal or Uyuni town center.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THOSE GOING TO OTHER DESTINATIONS BUT LA PAZ

SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA. those crossing the border will miss on the visit to Qatal, transfer from the border is included.

SUCRE, POTOSI, TUPIZA or VILLAZÓN. Only semicama bus is available for any of these destinations.

ARRIVAL IN LA PAZ is between 06:00 and 07:00 a.m. so you should take your precautions to request “Early Check In” at your hotel. Transportation to your hotel is at your own expense.
